FAQs or Frequently Asked Questions
Will My Website Be Unique?
You should use content that is unique – it’s harder to rank a site which contains the same words that are published elsewhere on the Internet – even if you are the copyright holder. Images however can be freely re-used (assuming you own the rights of course). If I provide images then they are what are known as “stock images” which may have been used elsewhere on the Internet. However they almost certainly won’t have been used in a header with a design quite the same as your site. For all intents and purposes your site will be unique.
Why Are You So Cheap?
I’m a generalist not a specialist. I am not a fantastic top notch designer. I am not a developer building a website from scratch using code – I am using WordPress (which is free to me and you) which cuts the development time down dramatically (and makes the sites easy to maintain in the future). I pass the time savings on to you. I will not spend hours and hours with you debating whether a serif or a sans serif font is right or whether the aqua shade should be dark blue. I will set up a functional website – you can fiddle for as long as you wish (its OK I’ll keep a backup) – I save time – you save money.
Your Company Is Small – What Happens To My Website If You Go Out of Business
Well I’m not planning on going out of business anytime soon – but since you ask. Your domain name will always be registered in your name - you control it. You will have a backup of your website. If at any time and for any reason you wish to move your website to new hosting and have someone else maintain it you just need to get in contact with someone who develops WordPress websites and they will be able carry on where I left off. The hosting I provide is via Hostgator.com – the servers are in Texas not my back bedroom! You can change where your site is hosted at any time by redirecting your domain’s name servers to a different hosting company (sounds techie but its not).
I thought WordPress Was Just for Blogs
This site is running on WordPress – does it look like a blog?
I want a Website and a Blog
This is a website which also has a blog – and the design matches perfectly – because the entire site runs on the same software – WordPress. In practical terms there is no longer any difference between the two.
Can You Do It All For Me – I Don’t Want to Maintain My Website and Blog
Sure – get in contact and we will discuss your requirements in more detail
I’ve Heard About Adwords – Do You Do Adwords ?
Adwords is the advertising program run by Google When you do a search on Google you will see ”sponsored links” at the top and to the right of the main listings. If you run an advertisement with Adwords’ you set a budget and bid against competitors to get the top spot listings. Its an auction so what you pay (and you pay for every click on your ad) is determined by your competitor’s budget. You also pay more or less depending on the quality of your landing page. It’s a complex system which takes lots of experience to run cost-effectively. I’ve never had the money to learn how to do it well (it’s like Poker you have to lose some cash to in order to learn) and I won’t take your money to learn either. I don’t do Adwords.
Will You Submit My Website to the Search Engines?
No. I am amazed to see many companies still offering this “service”. Don’t get me wrong – its very easy to submit websites to search engines – but I don’t do it for two reasons:
- it’s unnecessary. Google in particular is very good at finding new websites. I have had them find a brand new site typically within 48 hours of the site going live – without a single link or submission required. Being found of course is not the same as being on the first page of the search results.;
- it may be harmful. Think about it you are telling the search engines – that you need to let them know that there is a new site – they won’t be able to find it themselves. I have heard stories of sites which have taken longer to index when submitted to engines – so why do it if it could hurt?
